PHOTOBUCKET Kills The Internet

Postby 1coolbanana » Mon Jul 10, 2017 7:41 pm

As most of you might be aware by now, Photobucket has decided to extort millions of people by demanding $400 USD for the ability to use third party hosting of their own images.
For those of you who are not sure what third party hosting means, it means that when you link a picture you have on Photobucket to be viewed anywhere else, like on this forum, it is called 3rd party hosting.

Im not a believer in a free lunch and have been a PAYING customer of Phuckbucket for a long time but I will not pay a $400 USD ransom.

So, all of you that have pictures on Photobucket and have them linked all over the place will no longer be able to view them anywhere unless you pay them a ransom of $400 USD a year for the privilege.

Criminal you say, you bet and will most likely be the downfall of Phuckbucket.

Me personally, Ill be losing the last 8 years worth of images Ive posted up as ride reports, build, 4WD trips, family etc.
Its taken me a solid week + to get a new host (SmugMug) and relink the last 3 years worth.
The hundreds of random images Ive posted will be lost for sure as will millions of other peoples images.

For the moment, anyone who would like to post images and does not yet have another hosting service, feel free to upload as attachments and they can be hosted here on OAR.

This is the email you, as a Photobucket customer, will receive shortly if you have not already
*********************************************************************************
WE NOTICED THAT YOU HAVE BEEN USING
PHOTOBUCKET FOR 3RD PARTY HOSTING*

PLEASE UPGRADE TO A PLUS 500 PLAN.

*What is 3rd Party Hosting?
Photobucket defines 3rd party hosting as the action of embedding an image or photo onto another website. For example, using the <img> tag to embed or display a JPEG image from your Photobucket account on another website such as a forum, Etsy, eBay auction listings, a blog, etc. is definitively 3rd party hosting.
Why Photobucket?
Photobucket is the global destination for linking and 3rd party hosting. In Photobucket’s 14-year history, the Company amassed over 100 million registered users, over 15 billion images stored, 2 million daily uploads and 10 billion photos accessed monthly.
Easy to Use – Upload a photo from any device and copy the embed code with one click to host a photo with no development or technical knowledge required
Competitive, fixed pricing Offers the only unlimited 3rd party hosting plan (Commercial and Personal Use)
Are my pictures still safe?
Yes! All your photos are still available by logging into your Photobucket Account. Photobucket has only restricted the ability to view your photos on 3rd party sites.
Can I download my Photos?
Absolutely, at any time. It is an easy four step process:
Step 1. Login to your Photobucket Account
Step 2. Navigate to your library page
Step 3. View a photo and click the download button
Step 4. The picture will be saved to your computer
