I know there are for and against arguments but as far as Im concerned you cant beat tubeless tyres for ease of repair and convenience.
Been using them for 2 years on the 1190R and I dont want to go back to tubes if I can help it.
I hate tubes with a vengeance, been mucking with them for too long so Im going to try and convert the 990 to tubeless like the 1190 R.

So, as it turns out, the rear wheel of an 1190 is nearly the same as a 990 and with a couple changes it fits straight in.

Picked up a used rear wheel but unfortunately it has a big ding in it and its been converted to tube so I will have to get it rolled straight and convert back to tubeless.

Have to strip the wheel all the way tomorrow and get it away for rolling.

Front wheel is a different ball game.
The 1190 hub is about 20 mm wider for starters so will have to ask some experts about whether I can fit a tubeless rim to the 990 hub.

Marc, what differs in the construction of the rim that allows you to run it tubeless?

The tubeless ones have a groove in the centre trough with (for lack of a better explanation) two rubber seals that goes around the circumference where the spokes come through the rim.
When I rebuild the rear one, Ill take pictures and it will be self explanatory.

Very interesting! I have a mate selling a tubeless 1190 R front wheel if you want me to put you in touch.

Bugger wish Id known earlier, I just recently bought a "well used" one and its being re-rolled and trued as we speak.
But thats for the 1190 as the hub is about 25 mm wider and wont fit the 990.
Im investigation the possibility of an 1190 rim on a 990 hub but its not looking so good unless someone can make me custom spokes.

Cleaned up and striped

Ordered parts but no hurry and its buckled and needs re-rolling.

Need to find some info on how to attack the replacement and alignment of the bands

Damn! Yeah, this one looks like it's in pretty good nick. So doesn't sound like it's an easy job to re-lace the 1190 rim to the 990 hub.

Have you considered Tubliss?

I dont believe they make them big enough for these size rims and they dont handle higher speeds our bikes can manage.
