A friend of mine has an older Daker650.
Everytime he needs something it's hundreds of $$$$
Who wants to pay $300 for a front fender ? For example

My suggestions would be DR650, KLR650, vstrom650 with minor mods to suit ur needs. All are pretty solid bikes with good reliability and bang for buck :thumb:

Or spend up big and go Euro, Kato690, Husky630 BMW tiger800 etc
All with fuel injection, sensors, computers, and lots else to go wrong. prob not an issue if you dont venture to far from home. But nice looking bikes thou.:D

Are you looking at buying new or used? If new have a look at the new Husqvarna TR650 Terra. It has the BMW650 motor which has been modded for more HP by Husqvara and by all reports is a nice bike. It come in at a lot cheaper than the BMW650 and not much more than the DR650.

You havent mentioned what you plan to do with it! :ne_nau:

If you want a bmw 650, just get one, dont listen to all the nay sayers.
There are literally millions of f650's that have well over 100,000k's and much more trouble free.
When was the last time you saw a 610 with 100,000k's + .....ha ha, as if!
DR's well maybe, DL probably.
Seriously though, if you want something to commute on as well as do dirt roads and some dirt rd touring then the F650 as DL or DR are good, the DL being by far the heaviest of the lot and much more road biased..
If you want to single track, never do more than a couple hundred k's and have to surgically remove the bike from your arse crack after 500k's, get the 610.
Dont know anything about the Terra, so wont comment but sounds like its got a decent motor .
Horses for courses.

Good luck with your choice.

thanks for the info so far. i am planning to buy a second hand bike, i think 7000 is pushing my budget but am willing to spend it. as for what i am looking for. i want something i can comfortably ride on road but also do dirt roads and fire trails yes i know it is not an off road bike and i don't plan to do anything stupid on it. But i also like the look of the bmw, my biggest thing i look at is also the seat, my little 250 seat is painfull and i feel that most trail bike seats are going to improve. any thoughts besides that i don't mind the dr.

My tip is you'll buy the BMW because that's what you want. Logic and cinsideration only go so far in motorcycle choices. :)

If youre on a tight budget, you might do the occasional trail, commuting, the DR is probably the go, for 7k you would get a nearly new all tricked up one and it would cost you nothing to run.
I dont know for sure byt the DR would probably be way more comfy than your 250.

All of the above are fair points and all I have to add is that a DR650 will do everything.

Enough power to cruise at 120km/h and with a bit of work the suspension will handle anything.

Plenty of accessories to make it exactly what you want when you can afford them.

With an airhawk seat it's as comfy as anything else.
