Boots

Post by Redback » Mon Feb 04, 2019 8:55 am

Well after my off I've decided to get some boots with better ankle protection, in the meantime I have my Gaerne G-React motox boots to wear(once I've healed) until I decide on which boot to get.

So any ideas or good experiences on which boot you would recommend would be great.

Baz.

Ive been extremely impressed with my Sidi Adventure Goretex.
Totally waterproof, not too hot, the most comfortable boot even and decent protection.
They arent cheap but Ive been flogging mine for years are they are still good and even still waterproof.

Highly recommended.

I was so impressed that after a couple years, I bought another set that was on special.
They are still in the cupboard, brand new and unused because the first set refuses to wear out!

Thanks mate anything that is quality is usually not cheap, I've been looking around and the BMW GS pro boot caught my attention as well as the Forma Predator, which I think is who makes the BMW GS boot, both not cheap.

I'll just checked out the SIDIs, look pretty good, and you weren't kidding about the price,

thanks.

I had the old BMS boots and they were awesome.
I bought the Forma, which incidentally is the maker the BMW GS boot.

I had to sell them, they were so stiff and hard, couldn't walk in them, missing gear shifts etc.
I was very disappointed as the old boots (which I still have) were great but none of the forma or GS boots are water proof.

They were just no good for adv riding, not for me anyway.
Max protection but unusable day to day.

I also looked at the Forma Adventure boot but they are as much protection as a pair of running shoes.

Yes the Forma's don't give good protection as I found out, as well as the lateral fracture I had a crush fracture which is what I'm trying to avoid in case I have a similar off.

So the GS boots are not waterproof, that's a bit pointless as essentially they are an Adventure boot, considering BMW don't have a MotoX bike.

BUT

After reading your comment I went and read the specs again and they are not waterproof if you don't wear them correctly so onto google and I found this

They are the nicest boot Ive ever worn but they are the minimum level of protection I want.
After breaking both ankles, I wouldnt go any less.
More would be better but not at the expense of being able to walk any distance, feel the pedals, waterproofness and comfort.

Finally have a chance to try on some boots either tomorrow or Saturday, I've chosen two boots to consider, 3 if I decide to go to St Peters(PITA to get too) the SIDI ADV 2 Gor-Tex, Forma Predator 2.0 and the BMW GS Pro, I think the GS are a long shot though.

I would like to go for a short ride tomorrow, just not sure if I'm up to it yet, Ness might go I think although I'm not sure at the moment, I hope she does though.

OK I went, I saw, and I tried them on, verdict, no to all and my reasoning for this, I don't think they any better than my Gaerne G Reacts I already have, they have the pivoting thingy and they seem pretty good for protection, also I think I may have bought them a little more recently than I first thought, so for now I stick with what I have.

These are the currant 2018/19 G Reacts, absolutely identical to mine, even the colour :wtf:

OK these Gaerne MX boots are really uncomfortable so I might re-think the ADV boots again, I've tried on the SIDI and Predator 2, but haven't tried the GS Pro yet and while I know they are made by Forma and are supposedly the same as the Predator 2 I would still like to try them on.

The SIDI were comfy more so than the Predator, so I'm going to have another look around.

I gave up on MX boots 20 years ago. No feel on the brake lever, walk like a robot and uncomfortable. Sure they offer superior protection but you have to be comfortable and have good control over your bike. MX boots are just for that, motocross, where you have them on for short periods for maximum protection and lever feel isn't as important. I'm sure Toby Price would disagree though   . I think the Formas you had is about the best compromise and you just got unlucky.

Well I took the plunge and got me some of these, people mentioned they were hard to put on and at first they were, but I have put them on 3 times now and it gets easier each time, getting them off is a different story especially with my bum ankle.

Surprisingly hey pretty damn comfy considering they are supposed to be the same as the Forma Predators, I tried the Predators on and these GS Pros are much more comfy by a country mile.

Got some new road boots yesterday, I really like these, look great I love the old school look about them and they very comfy, the quality looks very good also.

I 've been wearing the ALDI boots on the H2, well when I say wearing I mean persevering with them, they are not a good boot and my old Rossi boots have finally died after about 43years.
