Considering a xt660z Tenere 09
Hi
Im looking for a way into the off-roader lifestyle, and comparing two teneres being advertised.
The difference between them is basically the milage, and of course price One has gone 20 000km and the other past 50 000km
I visited the owner of the 20k km bike, but the gearbox felt pretty wore out already! The engine didn't run that smoothly either...
The two bikes differs almost 3330$ because of the milage.
Which one will in the end be the cheapest bike, with maintenance included.
How long can I expect this bike to run?
Thanks!

Hi I have a 2009 xt660z tenere i bought a month ago its got 57k on the clock and is still running like a dream. With regular checkups and checking your oils and yearly mech checks she'll be going i hop well up into the 100ks. I might be dreaming but hes a single cylinder and god loves em! I have some pics on Manny Dommi to MannyYammi adventures in this area of the forum ill post some better pics. Theres a few scratch marks on mine yet thats what i will do anyway and the protection plastics that come with it have saved it. i picked it up for $7.8K at a yamaha dealer on the central coast that had serviced it from new. Highly recommend the xt660z tenere love it! Looking forward to next years tenere tragics ride.

Took one these XTZ 660 Tenere' for a lap last Monday too. Pretty happy apart from the seat, pushing me up against the tank, plus the pegs are a bit short for size 13 boots. Maybe a set of pivot pegs & some modification to the seat could have it in my shed.

Taken a couple of weeks but finally put one in the stable.
Kept the DR for sons/visitors, sick of riding alone

I've repeatedly been tempted by the 660 Teneres

I was looking at those GS800 Twin BM's but couldn't justify spending around mid teens ($k.)
This was first on the road, Feb 2010, only ridden locally with under 10k on the clock
The original owner found the overall height for his diminutive stature a tad daunting, trading it on a new 500 Honda. Suits my 192cm's & 100kgs
The panniers were "a lap around OZ old" which the shop owner used a couple of years back, so they were an additional cost but the brackets had to purchased new, nearly $300
nearly the price of the panniers & box
The new tyres all round resemble riding a pizza cutter under 80kph on the blacktop.
There's also an LED light mounted under the front fairing, which I'm not overly impressed with so far, maybe some adjustment
Anyway, I'll just put some k's on it

Thanks CoolB's & Hoots
Taken a week off on top of my usual 3 day off roster, hope to do the Barraba & east side of Kaputar circuit next weekend on it. Been trying to do that particular ride for a while,
hopefully gather half a dozen of the local lads for the day including my eldest son who can ride the DR.
